Dear Grooms and Brides-to-be,
We have photographed countless couples within the past ten years, and if we could tell you one piece of wedding photo advice, it’s this: CLOTHING CHOICES MATTER! In fact, this is probably the most important thing you want to get right. If your complexion is not perfect, your teeth less than pearly white, stray hair in your face, etc. -don’t worry! That’s what Photoshop is for. However, if you show up in a noisy patterned top and see-through skirt, then bad news: Not even our most skilled photographer or Photoshop genius can save you.
For best results, choose an outfit with solid colors and no patterns please! Why solid colors? Contrary to what many may think, an ornate, intricate piece of clothing will not be impressive on camera. In fact, busy and patterned clothes will appear anything but glamorous because it will detract from the overall sense of harmony achieved by a balance of shapes and colors. Furthermore, you want you and your loved one’s faces to be the highlight of the photos -not your clothes. Save your lace tops for another day and opt for monotone solids.
In the examples, notice how the colors pop? Instead of distracting, the clothes enhance the photo subjects from the textured background so that your eyes go straight to the couple. As a result, they look polished and elegant.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, so don’t forget this simple piece of wedding photo advice! But most importantly, relax, have fun, and cherish the moment. Without genuine happiness, nothing else matters.
Love,
The team at 2Swans Photography
